Catalans Dragons star labels Super League ‘horrendous’ and ‘near unwatchable’ in sweary tirade

Super League

Catalans Dragons star Luke Keary has slammed the state of Super League, describing it as ‘near unwatchable’. The Australian half-back is still relatively new to the competition, having joined up with the Dragons from NRL side Sydney Roosters over the off-season.

The move was a big one for Catalans, with Keary representing both Australia and New South Wales earlier in his career, and the hope was that he would be able to under that experience in order to push the French outfit back into play-off contention.

However, it seems Keary is less than enthused by what has greeted him in Super League, with the 33-year-old going on record in an interview with Wide World of Sports to slate almost every facet of the game in the Northern Hemisphere.

Speaking openly, Keary took aim at the quality of Super League and Sky’s coverage before going on to claim the NRL has a lot of work to do in order to turn the competition around.

Luke Keary slams Super League and makes NRL takeover point

“If (the NRL) don’t buy it, they’re in a lot of trouble… all the players are open to it,” the Catalans man said in an interview with Wide World of Sports.

“I’ll go on the record saying (the Super League) is in such a bad way, the game is horrendous over here. It’s the product, the coverage, the news around the game, there is zero. There is zero.

“Just the top teams have (strong) support and that is it. You watch the games, they’re near unwatchable. The way Sky do it now, or whoever’s got it, it’s near unwatchable, and the players all know it. I can’t follow it and I f—ing play in it.

“You can’t watch the games, it’s so bad… it’s horrendous. The coverage and everything, and because we’re in France too they don’t show the games.

“I watch more NRL than Super League. NRL is super easy to watch on the app. One thing I’ve appreciated over here, seeing the state of the Super League (is) how good of a place (the NRL) is in. The product, the support, it’s in such a good spot.

“They’re on their knees, like they’re literally on their knees begging for the NRL (to buy in). Then you look at it… it’ll take that much work for them to turn it around.

“They’re in a different market here, it’s hard with the football, but at the rate they’re going… I think the St Helens boss did an interview a few weeks ago and he just basically said, ‘we’re all like haemorrhaging so much money’.

“He’s basically pleading that they come in and take it… and the players all want it.”

And there it is … straight from the horses mouth. More players should speak up, after all they are the ones putting their bodies on the line. The players deserve better. The supporters deserve better. The owners deserve better. The game deserves better. Super league was meant to be a brave new world and then the English got involved. Other the Maurice Lyndsey nobody had a clue what to do.
Time we accept NRL input, go all in and most of all f___king stick with it for mate than five minutes!!!
