Watch as Catalans Dragons captain sent off after wild punches against Hull KR

Catalans Dragons’ problems have worsened after captain Benjamin Garcia was sent off against Hull KR in a ‘moment of madness’.

Trailing 18-0 and already a man down after Franck Maria was sent to the sin bin, Garcia threw a punch at his Hull KR counterpart Elliot Minchella, flooring the Robins’ skipper.

Not content with having dropped one Hull KR man, Garcia swung again but fortunately for Mikey Lewis, the Frenchman missed.

A melee ensued and the result, when everything was separated, was that the Catalans skipper was sent off with his match finishing after just 26 minutes.

Conferring with the video referee, Tom Grant explained that he had already spoken to Benjamin Garcia twice before confirming the punches thrown. As such, he sent Garcia off which left Catalans down to just 11 men.

No further action was taken for any other issues in the melee with Elliot Minchella seemingly being checked out by the physios.

Commentator Dave Woods described Garcia’s actions as a ‘moment of madness’, whilst Kyle Amor went further and declared the Dragons skipper to have “absolutely lost the plot”.

Kelepi Tanginoa would score just two minutes after Garcia’s send-off to make it 22-0 with Arthur Mourgue having converted all three of the earlier tries inside the opening half hour.

Tom Davies, the Wembley hero, scored the first before James Batchelor ran an exceptional line to crash over.

The try of the night came when prop forward Sauaso Sue stepped the Catalans full-back Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet, scoring under the sticks to huge cheers.

Sue did then cop a head shot on the ensuing kick-off with Franck Maria sent to the sin bin for his high shot, raising the tempers which clearly boiled over for Benjamin Garcia.
