Rugby League News: Castleford’s important deal, Hodgson’s contract clause, Leeds coaching hint & Catalans’ major signing?

It has been a busy 24 hours with major stories breaking from Super League and the NRL.

Here is a round-up of everything that has happened…

Castleford and Leeds deals

Castleford Tigers yesterday announced the signing up of a hot prospect in a major coup that will have been hailed by their fans. Read more here.

It wasn’t just Castleford closing an important deal, though, as Leeds Rhinos took the hotseat earlier on in the day with the signing of two starlets. Read more here.

Hodgson’s contract clause

Fox Sports has revealed that Josh Hodgson has a revealing contract clause that new club Parramatta Eels are in control of.

The current Canberra Raiders hooker is set to join the Eels from 2023, but nothing is clear about beyond that. Read more here.

Burgess’ shock new career

Former South Sydney Rabbitohs legend Sam Burgess has taken on a shock new career, despite speculation linking him with a big coaching job, according to Kitchen Confidential.

The SAS Australia champion was cleared by police and the NRL on domestic abuse allegations, but it seems he is making more money outside of rugby league. Read more here.

Hull on Fash

Hull FC have made their decision on Brad Fash’s Grade E charge allegation of biting from the Hull derby.

Though Fash was charged, he was still able to play against Warrington and deliver a man-of-the-match display. Read more on Hull’s decision here.

Bradford statement

Bradford Bulls have released a statement following their dismal run of form in the Championship.

The West Yorkshire club have won four from eight games so far in 2022 and sit in ninth in the table. Read the statement here.

Taukeiaho to Super League

Tongan international and Sydney Roosters forward, Siosiua Taukeiaho, will be a Super League player in 2023, according to Fox Sports.

The rampaging prop – who can also kick goals – will leave the Roosters at the end of 2022 for a marquee move to UK shores. Read more here.

More bad Hull news

Hull FC have been rocked in recent days with a number of injuries, but head coach Brett Hodgson has told the Hull Daily Mail even more bad news in that department.

Hodgson has given big news on Josh Griffin and Adam Swift as well as explaining why Danny Houghton and Josh Reynolds were absent against Warrington. Read more here.

Leeds coaching hint

There has been a major coaching hint given by Leeds Rhinos interim boss Jamie Jones-Buchanan with a decision expected imminent. Read more here.

That being said, Sky Sports pundit Jon Wells believes there is an obvious choice as well as a shock one for the job at Headingley. Read more here.

Hall and Charnley speak out

There were a number of contentious issues over the weekend, with Hull KR winger Ryan Hall the first one to slam the Easter Weekend schedule. Read more here.

He wasn’t alone in his outspoken views on Twitter, with Warrington Wolves winger Josh Charnley also speaking out about a controversial decision in his side’s loss to Hull FC. Read more here.

Injury blows

There were a number of injury blows to Super League teams over the weekend with the likes of Warrington Wolves, Hull FC and St Helens suffering big. A trio of stars have also been ruled out until the end of the season. Read more here.

The worst, however, was probably a fractured larynx suffered in a derby game by a new signing. Read more here.

Austin’s horror injury

Not only were Leeds Rhinos defeated against Castleford Tigers on Easter Monday, but they also suffered a terrible injury to talisman Blake Austin.

The former Warrington Wolves halfback had to leave the field early in the first-half due to a head injury – and it doesn’t make for good viewing! See it here.

Fine form

The Super League stats have been revealed and Jake Connor and Jack Welsby are now on level in terms of try assists with 13.

Josh Drinkwater and Tui Lolohea are one behind the pair on 12. Read all the stats here.

Bans galore and why

It has been a busy weekend for the Disciplinary Match Review Panel too with a whole host of Super League stars incurring bans including Leeds and St Helens stars as well as Luke Gale, whilst a Castleford Tigers forward has also been charged. Read more here.
