Castleford Tigers v Wigan Warriors line-ups predicted as Matt Peet to make key calls

Wigan Warriors

Wigan Warriors will look to bounce back despite not having Bevan French when they face Castleford Tigers in Round 16 of Super League.

It’s been confirmed that the 2023 Man of Steel will miss the clash at the Jungle with a calf issue potentially ruling him out for two to three weeks.

Losing French will be a massive loss but in Jack Farrimond, Wigan have a wonderful replacement and he’s not the only youngster who could return and shine on Saturday night.

Castleford Tigers named Fletcher Rooney in their squad for the first time since his quadriceps injury earlier in the season with the full-back’s possible return timely given that Tex Hoy is currently out.

The game will be available to watch on the BBC via the Red Button with kick-off slated for 8:00 pm on Saturday evening as Wigan look to bounce back from last week’s shock defeat to Wakefield, and here’s how we think each side could line up.

Predicted Castleford Tigers team

Fletcher Rooney wasn’t the only boost that Castleford Tigers fans got when they saw the 21-man squad as overseas signing Joe Stimson was also named with the forward in line to make his debut.

The 29-year-old can play anywhere in the pack and will be a welcome boost to go along with fellow recent overseas recruit Tom Amone.

Danny McGuire confirmed that there wouldn’t be anything ‘major’ in terms of changes but did admit some tactical tweaks would be made. On Rooney, he confirmed that he was ‘keen to have him in and around the team’ suggesting they won’t play the youngster meaning Zac Cini could continue at full-back.

If Stimson starts then that could see George Lawler move to prop and Brad Singleton be used as an impact player off the bench, alongside the likes of Joe Westerman, George Griffin and Sam Hall.

Castleford Tigers XIII: Zac Cini; Josh Simm, Louis Senior, Sam Wood, Innes Senior; Daejarn Asi, Rowan Milnes; George Lawler, Liam Horne, Tom Amone; Joe Stimson, Alex Mellor, Chris Atkin

Interchanges: Joe Westerman, Brad Singleton, George Griffin, Sam Hall

Predicted Wigan Warriors team

With confirmation that French misses out, Jack Farrimond is an easy switch to parachute into the halves alongside Harry Smith but the big questions come out on the wing.

Liam Marshall limped off against Wakefield but Matt Peet did confirm that he should be fine, however, with Abbas Miski still out with a knee injury and the likes of youngster Jacob Douglas and union convert Christian Wade knocking on the door, there is a decision to be made.

In the pack there’s also a curious situation with Harvie Hill handed a two-match ban for a red card in the reserves, however, he is eligible to play with the ban not starting until next week. Hill would be in contention with the likes of Tyler Dupree for a spot on the bench but could be edged out.

Wigan Warriors XIII: Jai Field; Zach Eckersley, Adam Keighran, Jake Wardle, Liam Marshall; Jack Farrimond, Harry Smith; Luke Thompson, Brad O’Neill, Liam Byrne; Junior Nsemba, Liam Farrell, Kaide Ellis

Interchanges: Kruise Leeming, Ethan Havard, Patrick Mago, Tyler Dupree
