Following on from his comments at the weekend, Castleford Tigers’ 2027 signing Tyrell Sloan has cast more doubt over his future in Super League when admitting that the uncertainty over Ryan Carr’s future at the club ‘puts a big dent in things’.
Sloan is one of three players that the Tigers have signed from Carr’s former club, St George Illawarra Dragons, but the uncertainty over his own future has made ripples down under as well.
Out of action at the moment due to what the club have announced as ‘personal reasons’, there is a growing belief that Ryan Carr has taken charge of his last game for Castleford, with the Tigers recently appointing Luke Robinson as an assistant to help run matters whilst Carr remains unavailable.
Sloan noted the uncertainty when giving a post-match interview this weekend, admitting to Channel Nine that leaving St George was not something he needed to do, though he admitted it was necessary.
He’d add: “I’m not too sure what’s going on in the background, I haven’t heard much about what’s going on with the coaching staff over there. I’m just taking it week by week here and really enjoying my footy for the first time in a while.”

Sloan has now made similar comments to The Sydney Morning Herald, speaking further on the element of uncertainty surrounding Carr and where that puts him.
One thing remains clear, as it was in that initial interview, and that is the fact that Sloan believes he still has plenty to offer in the NRL, though he admitted to the Herald: “I didn’t really have much [options] in the NRL and nothing made sense, to play in another jersey in the NRL.
“At the moment, I’ve got the Super League deal and at the end of it, I’ll only be 26. I’ve been in first grade since I was 18 so no matter what happens, I’d say I’ve got a lot of NRL left in me.”
The report from the Herald also states that the club have ‘privately conveyed’ that they do not have room for Sloan, or fellow signings Mat Feagai and Damien Cook, on their 2027 cap, meaning that staying is not an option.
On the Carr situation at Castleford, Sloan admitted: “It definitely puts a big dent in things for me, I’ll be honest. Carry was a big reason why I signed over there.
“Obviously we had a relationship here at the Dragons and I don’t really know the situation with him. We’ve been left in the dark.
“I’m really excited to go over there if Carry is there, but I just don’t know if that’s going to be the case there. Hopefully I’ll find out soon what’s going on and they make a decision.”
Sloan even admitted that he had ‘thought’ abut an NRL stay, but insisted: “I also have to keep playing good footy here to finish the season on a high.”
