Castleford Tigers have confirmed the signing of a Wigan Warriors player on a long-term deal.
George Hirst will make a permanent move away from the Brick Community Stadium, and will now link up with Ryan Carr’s side on a full-time basis.
The back rower was originally at the club on loan, and has been for the past few weeks, but after impressing in both training and in matches, the club decided to make an offer him a permanent deal.
Hirst leaves Wigan without making a senior appearance. The 25-year-old came through the ranks at Oldham, before being snatched up by Matt Peet’s side ahead of 2025.
Despite making a number of Championship appearances, his first Super League game came in Castleford’s victory over Huddersfield Giants, and he again excelled in the recent defeat to Leeds Rhinos.
Hirst has signed a deal with the Tigers until the end of 2028, highlighting just how much of an impression he has made.
The move is a logical one from a Castleford point of view, as Carr and Chris Chester both look to bring in younger, keener players that can form part of the squad for the long-term.

Castleford Tigers sign Wigan Warriors forward
On the deal, Hirst said: “I’m really pleased to be signing permanently for the Tigers.
“I’ve loved my time here so far and the lads and staff have been brilliant with me since I arrived. It’s a great club with passionate supporters and I’m excited to keep building here and see what we can achieve together.”
Boss Carr added: “Since joining the club on loan, George has shown great character and a strong desire to compete and work hard for this club and his teammates.
“To be able to get George here on a permanent deal is a massive boost to our squad and I can’t wait to work with him over the next two-and-a-half years.”
