Castleford Tigers share statement condemning fan actions after abuse of employee’s daughter

Castleford Tigers have released a statement to strongly condemn the actions of a male fan during the club’s recent loss to Hull KR, with the actions of others also noted.

The Tigers hosted Hull KR on Friday night, losing 44-0 in a miserable performance at a fixture that was overshadowed by off-field ongoings.

Following reports that head coach Ryan Carr had been stood down, Castleford shared their own statement to confirm that the coach would not lead the Tigers against Hull KR on account of ‘personal reasons’.

The atmosphere at Wheldon Road was a bizarre one with sections of the crowd chanting in favour of Carr, whilst certain players were also booed throughout, something that director of rugby and interim coach Chris Chester condemned.

Castleford have now released a statement to confirm that the teenage daughter of one employee was verbally abused during the game, with the Tigers speaking up against that abuse and other anti-social behaviour.

Sharing a statement via social media, Castleford admitted that on-field results have created frustration but they urged that not to go any further, adding that CCTV is being reviewed to identify individuals involved in anti-social behaviour.

The statement read: “During the recent fixture against Hull Kingston Rovers, a 16 year old daughter of one of our employees was verbally abused by a male fan. This incident left both daughter and parents extremely upset and disturbed by the incident.

“Anti-social behaviours towards our players and staff members by a minority of our fans was also witnessed.

“We understand that everyone is frustrated with our on-field performances this season, and we are working hard to improve this, however this type of conduct has no place in Rugby League. It is wholly inconsistent with the values of Castleford Tigers RLFC and the standards upheld by the majority of our supporters.

“We will not tolerate any type of anti-social behaviour within our stadium, the vast majority of our fans behave acceptably and offer support to our club, players and staff that is the envy of many other clubs. We are currently reviewing CCTV footage to identify the individuals concerned.

“Rugby League is a family sport, let’s keep it this way.”
