Castleford Tigers coach Ryan Carr believes that the club’s recruitment is around ‘80%’ done on the back of signing Robbie Mulhern, whilst he also confirmed another new addition when speaking to the media.
At midday, the Tigers announced the long-reported signing of Mulhern with the Leigh forward inking a three-year deal with Castleford, becoming their third confirmed signing for 2027 after Damien Cook and Mat Feagai.
Asked by Serious About Rugby League at his presser what Mulhern will bring to Wheldon Road, Ryan Carr was clear: “Heaps. Heaps on and off the field. He’s a champion person, an unbelievable team-mate, really selfless in his actions, plays big minutes, gets through a tonne of work with and without the ball, just a great athlete and a great player.
“I’m really excited to have him on board for 27, we’re very fortunate.”
Carr also pointed to the experience that Mulhern will bring with mid-season pack recruits Tyler Dupree and Jack Brown both 26, five years younger than the experienced Mulhern.
“The leadership factor was a big factor in what we’ve seen in him too,” Carr confirmed.
“We know what we’re getting and we’re, like I said, really pumped to have him on board.”

Ryan Carr confirms another Castleford Tigers signing
With three signings now locked in and it understood that Tyrell Sloan will also sign with the Tigers for 2027, recruitment is ticking along nicely and when asked how complete it was, Carr agreed.
“I would put us at 80%, probably,” he said, though he offered no insight into what sort of turnover in respect to outgoings would happen.
“I’m not sure, to be honest. It’s week to week at the moment, day to day, getting ready for each game. I’m really trying to put my energy and focus into the group right now and the playing group right now and focussing on them and giving them as much of my energy and commitment as I can right now.
“That that’s what off-season’s for, to sort of look into that and to consider that, I mean, that’s what the break’s for.”
Carr also seemingly confirmed that Alfie Johnson of Halifax Panthers will be signing with the club when asked what the former rugby union sevens player would bring to Castleford.
“I had a good catch up with him and he’s a great young kid, super talented, athletic, probably just so young in his rugby league journey, I suppose,” Carr explained.
“You never know how high the ceiling you can get with guys who have come into it quite late in the piece.
“One thing I know is his work ethic and dedication and hunger to be the best version of himself is really high and that’s what excites me.”
