Castleford Tigers have released hooker Judah Rimbu by mutual agreement, with the player citing a lack of game time for his reason to leave.
The 23-year-old joined the Tigers ahead of the 2025 season in a move from Queensland Cup side PNG Hunters.
He’s not featured for Castleford since round 10 of Super League, with head coach Danny McGuire selecting fellow PNG player Liam Horne and recent signing Chris Atkin ahead of him.
Having made just ten appearances, Rimbu has decided to move on from the West Yorkshire side.
Of his release, Rimbu said: “I’d like to thank the fans and supporters who have welcomed me to the club, but I’ve decided to move on.
“The club gave me the opportunity to play Super League, and I’ll always be thankful for the chance they gave me
“It’s a mutual agreement between myself and the club, I’m doing what’s best for the club and what’s best for myself.
“I’m going to return home and pursue other opportunities and take it from there.”
Castleford Tigers release PNG hooker as he falls down pecking order
Rimbu started off the season brightly, including a player of the match performance against Salford Red Devils back in round four, but has since fallen down the pecking order behind Horne, Atkin and youngster Cain Robb.
Castleford Tigers director of rugby Chris Chester praised the PNG hooker following his short stint with the club.
He added: “I would like to thank Judah for his time and efforts at the club.
“He wanted first-team opportunities, but unfortunately, we couldn’t guarantee them.
“After amicable discussions, we have granted him release by mutual agreement, and we’d like to wish him the best for the future.”
That now leaves a quota spot at the Tigers up for grabs as Rimbu exits the club.
He is Castleford’s second quota player release, following fellow PNG international Sylvester Namo’s departure in April, whose spot was replaced by Tom Amone.
