Castleford Tigers man delivers key injury news and talks revenge

Castleford Tigers

Sam Wood is confident that he will be considered fit enough to feature for Castleford Tigers at Magic Weekend on Sunday. The Tigers will look to build on last Saturday’s win over Huddersfield Giants when they take on Wakefield Trinity at St James’ Park.

Danny McGuire’s side approach the game having suffered two injuries last time out with Jeremiah Simbiken picking up a knee injury, while Wood damaged his shoulder in the win. An update on Simbiken is likely to come later in the week, but Wood has been speaking about his injury after making the trip up to Newcastle as Castleford’s representative at a press event.

The forward admits he did have some concerns when the injury occurred but he is now of the belief that it will settle in time for him to be involved in the final clash of the weekend on Sunday afternoon.

“I’m alright,” Wood told BBC Radio Leeds. “It was a bit of a scary one on my shoulder but it seems to have pulled up alright.

“We’ll see how the week goes and hopefully I’ll be in contention for this week but I’m confident of playing. It’s a little bit bouncy in there, I’ve probably sprained a few ligaments or tendons, but I’m confident I’ll be playing.”

Sam Wood on Castleford Tigers’ recent Wakefield Trinity history

Castleford took on Wakefield in Rivals Round just two weeks ago and the manner of their defeat continues to stick in the Tigers’ teeth. Castleford were 12-0 up at Belle Vue but ultimately lost 13-12 as Daryl Powell’s side launched a late comeback to claim the derby bragging rights.

As such, Wood admits revenge is on Castleford’s minds this week.

“We play every game to win,” the Tigers skipper added. “It will be a bit more special up at Newcastle if we manage to get the win and that’s what we’ll be going for this week, like Wakefield will be as well.

“It was a really close game last time and we’ll be wanting to the two points this time.

“We’ve been building for some weeks now and we just missed out there but we got a good win at the weekend and hopefully we’re building into a bit of form now.”
