Castleford Tigers make swoop for Super League rival as eighth signing confirmed

Castleford Tigers have confirmed their eighth signing ahead of the 2026 signing with the club swooping to sign a player from Super League rivals.

A huge rebuild is being undertaken at Wheldon Road with Ryan Carr incoming as head coach and Chris Chester doing plenty of work in the market as director of rugby.

Seven recruits had already been announced including four from overseas and three from Super League with the Super League trio including Hull FC pair Jordan Lane and Jack Ashworth, as well as Wakefield’s Renouf Atoni.

Cas have now gone back to local rivals Wakefield once again to sign hooker Liam Hood with the Scotland international penning a one-year deal, that also includes the option of a further year.

Hood’s arrival creates plenty of competition at hooker whilst also bringing in a player of genuine quality who proved himself to be able to start at nine for a team that made the Super League play-offs.

Wakefield had already confirmed that Hood was one of several players exiting the club but he’s a smart pick-up for Castleford, who announced him as someone who ‘brings a wealth of experience’.

Castleford will become Hood’s fifth Super League side having previously represented Salford, Leigh and Wakefield, whilst starting out at Leeds Rhinos.

Speaking on his move, the 33-year-old said: “My agent rang me and said Chris had been in contact about an opportunity to join Castleford. After speaking to Chris myself, and him telling me about all the positive things going on at the club, I thought it would be a great move for me.

“I’m very excited to be playing in front of the Castleford fans. I know how passionate they are and how much they get behind the team.

“I know it’s not been a great season this year, but I’m hoping we as a group can change that next year, and I’ll be doing everything I can to play my part in that.”

Chester was the man in charge at Wakefield when Hood was recruited to Belle Vue and he referenced that as he explained that he knew Hood ‘really well’, adding: “He’s an experienced, calm head who knows how to control a game through the middle.

“He brings with him a winning mentality and plenty of experience playing at the top level. Liam is very excited about the changes being made at the club, and he is looking forward to making a big impact both on and off the field.”
