Castleford Tigers legend Danny Orr is back in rugby league, and has recured a deal to work on the coaching staff at a Championship club.
Having left the 13-man game at the end of 2022 to pursue an opportunity in the West Yorkshire Police, he last worked as an assistant boss at Salford Red Devils, in what was now-St Helens boss Paul Rowley’s first season as head coach of the club.
A man with huge experience, he racked up 380 Super League appearances as a player, and represented his country on four occasions.
Spending the first part of his career with the Tigers from 1997-2003, he moved to Wigan Warriors and then Harlequins, before making a return to Wheldon Road for the final two seasons of his career in 2011 and 2012.
One of the most experienced players in the game, Orr will hope to use his successful career to lead and guide his new playing group.
Taking a role of coach at Keighley Cougars, the former half-back will work alongside Danny Burton and the rest of the backroom staff as the club prepare for the Championship campaign that kicks off later this week.
Burton himself has only recently been appointed to the role of interim head coach, following the departure of Alan Kilshaw to Oldham.
The Cougars kick off their season against Goole Vikings, before entering the Challenge Cup a week later. They will face the winner of Heworth vs The RAF in round two, and if successful will face either Midlands Hurricanes or Aberavon Fighting Irish in the third round.
