One of Castleford Tigers’ best ever overseas recruits, Grant Millington, has heaped praise on the club’s new boss Ryan Carr.
Millington, who played for the club between 2012 and 2021, was a fan favourite at Wheldon Road, and made 244 appearances for the West Yorkshire outfit.
A League Leaders Shield winner in 2017, he was also part of the side’s Challenge Cup Final squad in his final season, but came up short that day, losing to St Helens.
Now 39, the ex-prop currently resides in Australia, but still keeps a keen eye on his former club. This week, he has commented on the appointment of new boss Carr, believing he is a perfect candidate to take the club forward.
Carr joins the club on a three-year deal, after departing an assistant coach role at the St George Illawarra Dragons.
The 37-year-old has experience in the UK with Featherstone Rovers, guiding them to a Championship play-off final in 2019. He has now began his reign as head coach, with the Tigers now back in pre-season training ahead of 2026.
From the club’s social media videos they are releasing online, Millington is a big fan of Carr’s work, and has predicted that his former team will make huge strides under his tenure.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, he said:
“I must admit, from the moment [Castleford Tigers] announced Ryan Carr as the new head coach I thought it was the right decision.
“But seeing the small snippets coming out of the club it’s got me excited for the next few years.”
Castleford will get their first run out of the new season in late December, when Carr returns to his old club Featherstone for a pre-season friendly.
In January, the Tigers will travel to Spain to take on Championship side Oldham in the ‘Benidorm Bash’.
