Castleford Tigers have reportedly secured the services of Tyrell Sloan for 2027 with the speedster set to become the third player to sign from St George Illawarra Dragons for next year.
Sloan has previously been linked and reports from both the UK and Australia are now suggesting that the deal is complete, with The Daily Telegraph reporting that Sloan has signed a two-year deal at Wheldon Road.
Along with the likes of hooker Damien Cook and fellow outside back Mat Feagai, it’s fair to say that Castleford are bringing in some NRL quality and Sloan has now been tipped to make a huge impact in Super League.
Former Super League man Luke Keary, who spent just one year with Catalans Dragons and was outspoken in his criticism of the competition, has argued that Sloan will be a hit in England.
“He’ll do fantastic over there,” Keary said when commentating on St George’s win over Wests Tigers, a game in which Sloan scored before going off injured.
Keary then noted how Wigan Warriors duo Jai Field and Bevan French both made the switch to Super League and have taken the competition by storm with speed being a major asset of their game.
The pundit explained: “We’ve seen the likes of Bevan French and Jai Field go over there. He’s got speed to burn. He’ll have a lot of space over there where he can play.”
It’s unclear if Sloan will play at full-back or on the wing for Castleford with the club set to have a number of strong backs on their books, including current stars Krystian Mapapalangi and Jason Qareqare, as well as off-season signing Blake Taaffe, who is still out injured.
Sloan will become the tenth and final player contracted for 2027 or beyond suggesting that standout forward Joe Stimson, who is off-contract, could well leave Wheldon Road.
