Castleford Tigers flyer signs long-term deal after contract speculation

Castleford Tigers have been handed a massive boost as they’ve been able to tie down in-form winger Jason Qareqare to a new long-term contract.

The Fijian international was off-contract at the end of the season and there had been plenty of speculation about his future with the suggestion being that York Knights were keen on his services.

Despite that, head coach Ryan Carr has been forthright in recent weeks that the club value the winger and that good news could soon some and it finally has with Castleford Tigers announcing that Jason Qareqare has signed a new three-year deal.

It means that the winger will be playing his rugby at Wheldon Road until at least the end of the 2029 season with the club claiming the new deal signals their ‘intent to build and improve’ their playing squad.

Qareqare has certainly improved in 2026 with the winger one of Super League’s best so far, having formed a lethal right edge with Krystian Mapapalangi that has seen both men prosper.

Speaking on his new deal, Qareqare said: “Obviously, it’s a good feeling.

“I’ve been at this club for five years now, so glad to get it over the line – I feel like I’m playing my best rugby right now, so hopefully I can continue that for the next three years here as well.”

Castleford Tigers boss delighted with Jason Qareqare new contract

Both head coach Ryan Carr and director of rugby Chris Chester were delighted with the new deal as well, with Carr stating: “We’re really happy to get Gary re-signed for the next three years.

“He’s had a breakout year and he’s starting to get some real consistency and rhythm, which has been good for him. He’s formed a great connection with Krystian Mapapalangi and we know he will continue to develop and improve as a player which is exciting for us a club.

“Jas is a great person both on and off the field and he is a big part of our future.”

Chester added: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to secure the services of Jason Qareqare for the next three years.

“Jason has had his best year at the club to date and his partnership with Mapz has turned into one of the best in the competition.”

He continued: “The way Carry wants his team to play has enabled Jason to be on the end of some really good shape, and I can’t wait to see that combination grow over the next three years.

“I’d also like to thank the board for their continued support and backing in helping get this deal over the line.”
