Castleford Tigers could be without Jason Qareqare for the remainder of the season as their 2026 campaign lurches from bad to worse.
Qareqare was a notable absentee from Saturday’s loss against Warrington Wolves with the winger replaced by debutant Tylor Sharpe, who scored in the 48-18 loss.
Carr would go on to praise Sharpe in his post-match presser, explaining that he played far better than plenty of more experienced players who perhaps need to look at their own game, whilst also revealing why Sharpe had been thrust into the action.
“I found out about Gary (Jason Qareqare) on Tuesday so it was next man up mentality,” Carr explained before confirming the nature of the injury to the Fijian international, who has 19 tries in 22 games this season.
“Hamstring or lower leg injury but he’s out for a fair while.”
As to whether it was a possible season-ending injury for the winger, Carr confirmed: “Possibly.”
Another man who the Tigers will be without for next week’s game against Hull KR is Tom Weaver, with the half failing a HIA as Carr explained: “Tom (Weaver) got knocked out so he won’t be available next week.”

On the sole positive note, which was Sharpe’s debut, Carr said: “I was stoked for him, I was happy he got a try. I was hoping that we could give him a debut to remember but unfortunately, we didn’t.
“It’s a sign of things to come at our club. We’re doing a lot of work in the background on our pathways and development. We want to be a development club and produce local kids, we want them wanting to play for Cas and getting a pathway to be able to do that.”
With Qareqare looking to be sidelined for a while, more opportunities could be presented to Sharpe and based on his assessment, it seems as though Carr would have no issue handing the youngster more game time.
Carr said: “He’s got a lot of upside, he’s a young kid. Physically, he’s only going to get better and better and I thought he competed really hard today.
“You could tell that he wasn’t a common denominator, he played really well in his first game and there are some other players that probably have played a lot more games than he has who need to have a real good look at where their game is at.”
