Castleford Tigers will be without one of their star players for the next four months after the club confirmed their latest injury news.
The Tigers are already without rising star full-back Fletcher Rooney with the youngster suffering a quad injury back in March that would rule him out for four months.
Now, another of their young stars in the backs is set for a similar lay-off with Castleford confirming that Fijian international Jason Qareqare will miss the next four months.
It’s a massive blow for Castleford with Qareqare only just returning to the fray and scoring two tries in their Round Eight clash with Wakefield Trinity.
The 21-year-old has played 40 games for Castleford since debuting in 2021 as a teenager and scored at a rate of just over one try every other game. Qareqare’s appearance against Wakefield was his first of the 2025 season but he’ll now face a long wait before he takes to the field again.
Castleford Tigers’ Jason Qareqare ruled out for extended period
Qareqare wasn’t named in the 21-man squad for the Tigers’ clash against Huddersfield Giants on Saturday and Castleford have now taken to social media to confirm the injury.
Posting on X, the club said: “Winger Jason Qareqare will miss the next four months of the Betfred Super League Season due to a hamstring injury.
“The 21-year-old winger who grabbed a brace of tries on his return to the first team last Thursday evening, with their narrow defeat at Wakefield.
“With 22 tries in 40 games, Jason has been a serious attacking threat for the Tigers since making his debut in June 2021 when scoring a try with his first touch of the ball against Hull FC at the Jungle.”
Danny McGuire also spoke about the injury blow during his presser, confirming it the injury would require surgery, adding: “He has reinjured the injury that kept him out previously. It is really unfortunate, he had done everything right, he showed a lot of resilience to get back and thought he was really strong.”
McGuire confirmed Innes Senior, back from suspension, would be an immediate replacement whilst brother Louis (quad) is also close to a return.
It’s undoubtedly a huge blow for Castleford who still only have one win this season and will see their bottom of the table clash with Huddersfield as a perfect game to get two points and try and kickstart their season.
