Castleford Tigers returned to winning ways with a 36-18 victory over Toulouse Olympique with Ryan Carr welcoming the return to Wheldon Road, making an impassioned speech about the club’s identity after the victory.
Having raced into a 36-0 lead by the 65th minute, the Tigers did concede 18 points in the final 15 minutes but that wasn’t enough to take the shine off for Carr, who spoke in his post-match presser about his pride in the win.
“Really good, really, really good,” he said on Castleford Tigers’ YouTube channel.
“That’s probably our fifth good performance in a row now. Take away the result, it’s about how you perform and I thought we performed really well today.
“I thought we suffocated them for that first 40 through a lot of effort and energy in our game and we built the points as the game went on, we didn’t chase them.
“The amount of effort we piled into that first 65 minutes was why we won the game.”
Specifically on those final 15 minutes and the points conceded, Carr explained he wasn’t disappointed, noting: “Usually, I am. Usually, I’m a perfectionist but to play the game like we did for that first 65 minutes takes its toll on you. They got a couple of penalties and got some points off kicks and then in the corner post, we’re talking a centimetre either way, I’m not disappointed at all.”

Castleford Tigers boss confirms clean injury bill after win
Perhaps more important than the win was the fact that Castleford came through unscathed with the Tigers boss confirming George Hirst was simply taken off due to cramp.
Whilst Hirst and his fellow middles helped set the platform, it was a game dictated by the halves with Tom Weaver named man of the match by broadcasters Sky Sports, whilst Daejarn Asi also performed well.
On that duo, who have been criticised in the two recent losses, Carr said: “As a team, they’re growing. Within a team, they’re growing. There are little combinations that are forming and they’ve been playing good for the last five weeks so I’m really happy for them to get the recognition that they deserve.”
York Knights were the first side that the Tigers beat in this run of three wins in five games and Castleford host the Knights next week in another game at Wheldon Road, something that Carr and the players are relishing.
He said: “We love playing here, the boys love playing here and the fans, hopefully, are starting to see our identity and who we are as a group.
“We are our town and that’s who we are. We’re Cas, we’re Cas people, we’re passionate about our club, about our fans, and the boys love playing well for them, so having that support makes a massive difference to us on game day.”
