Castleford Tigers boss denies knowledge of immediate move for Hull KR man but future confirmed

Castleford Tigers head coach Ryan Carr has shut down talk that Hull KR forward Jack Brown will be making an immediate switch to Wheldon Road.

With Hull KR having added overseas prop Tevita Pangai Jr to their squad on a short-term deal until the end of the season, reports have emerged that fellow forward Jack Brown may be set to move to Castleford Tigers with immediate effect.

Those reports were fuelled by prior reports that Brown, who is off-contract at Hull KR, will sign with the Tigers from 2027 and whilst Ryan Carr seemed to confirm that, he denied any knowledge of the Rovers man making an immediate move.

“Have we? Let me know when that’s happening, it would be good to find out,” Carr quipped when asked about the reports at his presser ahead of Saturday’s clash with St Helens.

On what his side may look like for that game, Carr said: “This week’s squad will be very similar to last week’s, there won’t be a lot of changes other than the forced one from George getting suspended.”

When could Castleford Tigers sign Jack Brown?

So whilst Brown won’t be joining this week, Carr did confirm, or at least made reference to prior reports, that the club have signed the prop for 2027.

“It’s been documented that we’ve signed him for 2027,” the Australian said before being asked further about the prospect of getting Brown in earlier than that.

“That’s not my wheelhouse,” he responded.

“That’s Chezzy’s [director of rugby Chris Chester] space. I work on the playing group for right now. My complete focus is on trying to win the game this weekend.

“[He would strengthen the pack] if it was to come to fruition, but it’s not really my space. Saturday is all I am worried about.”

Carr will name his squad for Saturday’s Super League clash against St Helens on Thursday, the same day that Jack Brown is in with a chance of featuring for Hull KR against Wigan Warriors.
