Castleford Tigers have named the four men who will serve alongside owner Martin Jepson on the club’s board of directors. Jepson completed his takeover of the Tigers in May, with the businessman becoming the club’s new majority shareholder.
One of the biggest tasks he set himself after taking the Tigers reins was pulling together a new board of directors and he has successfully managed to do that with Jepson being joined by new vice chairman Steve Vause, CEO Danny Wilson, Martin Brown and Phil Alexander.
Seemingly, the board have already met with their first major decision being to remove Danny McGuire from the head coach position. That was announced on Monday evening with director of rugby Chris Chester taking on the position on an interim basis.
Tigers fans will be familiar with a few names on the board, with Vause being promoted to vice chairman having already served as a director at the club since 2013. Wilson has recently taken on CEO duties having held the director of rugby role in the past and Castleford fans will be more than familiar with his presence.
Brown joins the board in a zero-remuneration capacity and his experience of working at an executive level for multi-million pound organisations could well be play an important factor. He is a fan of the club.
The final man on the board is Alexander, who has a sporting background and has plenty of experience in football. He current holds an interim CEO role at the National League but has previously held similar positions at Crystal Palace, where he spent 26 years and won three promotions to the Premier League, and Bristol City.
Castleford Tigers owner on the new board
On his new board line-up, chairman Martin Jepson told the club website: “Steve and I are thrilled to welcome Martin and Phil to the board.
“Their collective expertise will play a key role in shaping the future of Castleford Tigers. Both individuals bring a proven track record of business transformation and leadership.”
“This board of directors are the right individuals to transform and lead the club back to winning ways both on and off the playing field, in support of this our club vision and targets and objectives will be published and briefed over the coming weeks”.
