Bradford Bulls secure season-long loan of former Salford Red Devils man

Bradford Bulls have completed a season-long loan signing of a former Salford Red Devils prop as they continue to bolster their injury-hit squad.

The Bulls have seen a number of players hit with injury whilst both Loghan Lewis and Elliot Peposhi remain suspended for Friday night’s fixture against Huddersfield Giants, so that has seen Bradford turn to the market.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that they had signed former Salford man Chris Atkin from Castleford Tigers and they’ve now continued their Red Devils-themed recruitment with the season-long signing of Jack Ormondroyd.

Crucial to that deal is the fact that there is no recall option, meaning Ormondroyd will spend the entire season with the Bulls in a major boost both in terms of personnel but also experience with the 34-year-old a seasoned veteran of Super League.

Ormondroyd becomes the latest in a string of former Salford men at the club, starting with head coach Kurt Haggerty but also including the likes of Ethan Ryan, Esan Marsters, Jayden Nikorima, Loghan Lewis, Joe Mellor, whilst Wednesday’s signing Chris Atkin also adds to the list.

Bradford Bulls sign Jack Ormondroyd

Ormondroyd was also signed before the squad declaration deadline meaning that he has been added to what was a 20-man squad, though it’s unclear if he’ll play on account of match fitness seen as Ormondroyd has been playing in the Championship.

Confirming the deal, Bradford said: “Bradford Bulls are delighted to announce the signing of towering forward Jack Ormondroyd on a season long loan deal – with no recall option.

“The 34-year-old joins from Oldham RLFC, having spent six years at Salford Red Devils prior, making over 110 appearances.”

Kurt Haggerty said: “I have known Jack for a while now, firstly, as a person he’s a first class human being. He’s great around the group, he’s a senior player but a very good person in regards to his game.

“He’s big, he’s physical and over the years he’s learned how to manage his game better. He’s gained even more experience over at Oldham so I am really looking forward to bringing him into this group.”

The Bradford coach also pointed to the familiarity of Ormondroyd with not only himself but many members of the team, stating: “He knows quite a lot of the group, we know what Jack can offer and we need to see the best version of Jack Ormondroyd. I’ve said numerous times I won’t rush bringing anybody in, it has to be the right person and Jack certainly fits the bill.

“I know him, he knows me, he knows the style of play and what I expect and he’s a very good Super League player. I am just really looking forward to getting him in a Bradford Bulls shirt and playing his best rugby again.”
