Bradford Bulls release stadium update as decision made on stock car racing agreement

Bradford Bulls

Bradford Bulls have revealed that stock car racing at Odsal Stadium will be no more, after agreements between both parties.

Odsal is one of the oldest stadiums in rugby league, and is undoubtedly one of the most iconic.

Part of what makes it so unique is the racetrack around the outskirts of the pitch, primarily used for stock car racking and other motorsport events.

Beginning in the 1950’s, racing was a key part of Odsal until 1997, where it last performed.

That was until 2021, when a new company took over the stock cars, and brought it back to the Bradford bowl.

However, with the Bulls now returning to Super League after a 12-year hiatus, it has meant that the rugby league side takes priority, and Kurt Haggerty and his troops will now have the stadium all to themselves.

A decision with Bradford and “Odsal Motor Sports” has been agreed, whereby there will be no further motorsport events that take place at Odsal, with the current agreement between the two coming to an end.

With IMG being such a key part of whether the Bulls stay in Super League or not, revamping the stadium has been a key part of CEO Jason Hirst’s past 12 months, with upgrades coming in the shape of LED boards, an extended TV gantry and a new director’s box.

The pitch was the next biggest task to renevate, but with the dirt track now out of commision it means that Hirst can continue those upgrades as he looks to secure Bradford’s place in the top flight for many years to come.

The brief statement, provided by the Bulls, reads:

“Bradford Bulls can announce that Odsal Motor Sports will no longer be racing at Bartercard Odsal Stadium, after both parties agreed to immediately bring to an end the previous lease agreement.

“The club wishes Odsal Motor Sports all the best moving forward.”
