Bradford Bulls forward reflects on ‘pretty tough’ Salford period as club goal set

Bradford Bulls forward Loghan Lewis has reflected on the torrid 2025 season at Salford Red Devils and why he’s flourishing at Odsal now instead.

Lewis was one of several who swapped Salford for Bradford, including Kurt Haggerty with the coach departing his assistant role with the Red Devils to become the head coach of the Bulls.

With him, he’d bring players such as Ethan Ryan, Jayden Nikorima, Joe Mellor and of course, Loghan Lewis, who has now reflected on his first few months as a Bradford player.

The Australian prop was handed the starting 10 shirt and that was something he noted when talking about the new-found stability he has now at Bradford, compared to the uncertainty at Salford where wages were paid late amid the financial crisis at the club.

Lewis signed a two-year deal, tying him to the club until the end of 2027, and on that stability, he told Bradford Bulls’ club site: “It’s made the world of difference, I probably was just getting through the games last year, it was a pretty tough time.

“I’m just really grateful to Kurt for giving me the opportunity, especially being given the number 10 jersey and being with a tight-knit group week in, week out.”

Bradford Bulls forward talks adversity and hunt for away win

The Bulls have had to become very tight-knit as they’ve faced plenty of adversity, both in the off-season and the season so far. They learned of their Super League status in October which meant plenty of their 16 recruits came late, whilst they’ve since lost over a dozen players through injury.

Lewis also claimed that the bond runs deep because plenty of players have has ‘similar careers’, as he explained: “We’ve been through adversity but we just take that by the scruff of the neck and that’s why we’re the scrappers. We just try hard for each other, effort day in, day out.”

Such a mentality has seen Bradford add plenty to Super League with the Bulls one of several teams with three wins at this stage, however, they’re still yet to win on the road.

Lewis addressed that, stating: “We try and win every game, home or away. You can’t dwell on it being an away game or a different stadium or whatnot. You want to win every game so we’re just going to every game with the plan to win, no matter if it’s home or away.

“We want to get that away win as it’s a bit of a morale boost but we’ll just keep pushing and trying to win every game.”

Next up for them after the Challenge Cup break, Bradford will return to Odsal to face Hull FC with the club set to embark on three home games in their next four matches.
