Brad Arthur shares update on Leeds Rhinos future deadline following victory over Salford Red Devils

Leeds Rhinos boss Brad Arthur

Leeds Rhinos boss Brad Arthur has shared an update on when he plans to make a decision on his future at the club, following his side’s victory over Salford Red Devils.

The Rhinos ran in seven tries in a 42-6 win in a clinical second-half display from the home side against a spirited Salford side.

Head coach Arthur was asked on Sky Sports about his future at the club following the victory, and here’s what he had to say: “1st of August, I’ve got a meeting with Ian Blease. That’s two Fridays away yet.

“I really enjoy working with this group. If they keep buying in and playing well, they’re making it very hard for me to walk away.”

The Leeds Rhinos boss also wanted to praise Salford’s efforts, especially after their first-half display.

Arthur was pleased with his side’s ability to reset at half-time, but wants to see his side score more ‘bad tries’.

He added: “Look, credit to Salford, they’ve come to every game they’ve played this year with fighting spirit, and they did that in the first half.

“I was really proud of our guys in the second half as soon as we learned that all tries are worth the same. Some of the tries we scored were unbelievable, with great skill, just great footy tries, but sometimes I just want to see us score some bad tries and be comfortable with that.

“I thought in the first half, we were just a little bit impatient, but credit to the boys, we played well in the second half. We were very physical, and that’s our strength.”

Whilst the Rhinos were clunky in the first half, they showed why they’re at the top end of the table in the second half.

Arthur shared what he said to them at half-time ot inspire their second-half performance: “I gave them a good rocket and a spray for about 30 seconds and walked out. They seemed to sort it out themselves.

“They need to grow as a team, and I can’t be there to do everything for them. The thing that pleases me is that they understand exactly what works for us, and they know how we want to play and what team we want to be.

“When they can be that, you can see the difference in the second half.”

The Rhinos now sit in fourth, just four points off top spot, and with the top teams still to play each other, could Leeds be making a move?

Arthur said: “That’s a long way down the track, we’ve got a tough game next week against Wakefield. Then we have a bit of reset, when we’ll do our twenty-week review to see where we’re at and what we need to improve on going into this last crop of games.

“If you’re trying to play at finals intensity, it’s about being able to hold it for the next set of games.”

He also wanted to praise youngster Presley Cassell, who made his Super League debut for the Leeds Rhinos tonight.

He finished: “He was good, you can see that he’s got some good feet, and he’s hard to handle when he carries the ball.

“He got us a couple of six-to-go’s, and it’s good that we can put him out there and enjoy the opportunity to give him a bit of game time.

“The only way young guys get experience is by giving it to them.”
