Brad Arthur gives latest Leeds Rhinos injury update as Maika Sivo return date discussed

Leeds Rhinos

Leeds Rhinos boss Brad Arthur has provided an injury update on his squad, and all bar two senior players will be fully fit for Super League selection at this stage.

Speaking at the club’s media day ahead of the Super League season, the former Parramatta boss, who has been with the club since August 2024, revealed that, on the whole, his side were fit and healthy.

Only Alfie Edgell is guaranteed to be unavailable, with the young speedster picking up what appeared to be an innocuous leg injury in the club’s Boxing Day friendly over Wakefield Trinity.

Edgell got the second half underway, but as he kicked off, he felt a niggle in his thigh, forcing him off the field.

That injury has now been confirmed, and the versatile back will miss the next 14-16 weeks as he recovers.

Leeds Rhinos boss gives Maika Sivo injury update

The only other doubt at this stage is fellow winger Maika Sivo, who is nearing the return from an ACL injury he suffered in the pre-season of 2025.

The Fijian international is yet to make his full Rhinos debut, and the Rhinos boss can’t say at the moment whether he will play in the club’s opening round clash with Leigh Leopards.

Arthur said: “[Other than Edgell] Maika is the only one that is touch and go. Outside of that, everyone else is good to play.”

The boss did confirm that, in what is positive news, he hasn’t suffered a set-back, and is on course for his original return date.

“He’s a big man, so we’ve taken it a bit slower, and we need to make sure we get it right,” Arthur added.

“There’s 27 rounds. It’s a long season, so it’s just making sure that he’s completely comfortable, we are completely comfortable, we’ve got enough running into him.

“It’s just a week-to-week proposition at the moment. He’s extremely close, but it’s hard to put a date on it.”
