Arthur Mourgue confirms return date as injury and Hull KR fans praised

Hull KR full-back Arthur Mourgue has spoken about the pec injury that has sidelined him for almost three months and confirmed when he’s expected to return.

The French full-back went down just minutes before half-time in the World Club Challenge win over Brisbane Broncos with the 27-year-old confirmed to have torn his pectoral muscle.

That meant surgery with Mourgue left behind whilst Hull KR travelled to Las Vegas and the former Catalans man has revealed that it was his first major injury, though he’s recovered well.

“I’m really excited, it’s been quite a long time for me. It was the first surgery for me. I’d had a syndesmosis (before) but I didn’t have surgery,” Mourgue said on Sky Sports’ The Bench podcast.

“It’s fine now. I went to see a specialist, and I’m really happy with where I’m at. Strength-wise, it’s pretty good. I’m really happy with where I’m at.”

He also confirmed that he’s in line for a return next week against Leigh Leopards in round 11 of Super League, noting: “I was scared to be back late but it’s looking like I’m going to be on time. That’s the plan.”

Hull KR full-back on repaying fan faith

Arriving early in the 2025 season, it’s fair to say that swapping Perpignan for east Hull was a culture shock for Mourgue but one thing he’s become enamoured with is the gameday experience at KR.

“Over here, when I arrived, it was like a new life for me,” he said, adding: “It’s really stuck with me, A Little Respect before the games, the Red Red Robin singing, that atmosphere shocked me on the first game.”

On the fans, he said: “Really passionate and that’s why you want to deliver when you play, to give them back what they give to you.

“I reckon every time I hear this song (A Little Respect), I’m on. The goosebumps before the game, I love to hear them singing it.”

Looking ahead, Mourgue confirmed he still has two years on his contract beyond 2026.

“The plan is to do the best I can to help this team win more trophies and then we’ll see what happens from there.

“Obviously, I’m enjoying my time over here so far. It’s been good for me, I’ve been able to take my game to another level.”
