Another Salford Red Devils exit confirmed as youngster leaves club for Championship side

Salford Red Devils

In yet another exit at Salford Red Devils, the club have confirmed that young half-back Kai Morgan has left to join a new team.

The former Leeds Rhinos academy player joined the side for 2024, in a hope to find more first-team game time at Super League level.

Whilst Morgan has certainly found that, this year especially, his time at the Red Devils has been one of financial uncertainty, with the club’s owners consistently breaking promises of delivering the money needed to pay off HMRC debts.

The 21-year-old, who can also play at hooker, was one of five players remaining at the club, but now that drops to a quartet, after he has confirmed to sign for a new club.

He will make a switch to the Championship in 2026, and will join Sheffield Eagles, who have made some shrewd signings this off-season.

Joining on a one-year deal, he will form part of a strong second tier squad that includes fellow new signings Joe Brown, Jordan Lilley and George Griffin.

His exit means that Joe Mellor, Esan Marsters, Nene MacDonald and Joe Shorrocks are the four players still contracted to the club.

All four have been linked with a move away, with both Bradford Bulls and London Broncos both looking to bolster their squad with what is left of Salford’s playing group.

Speaking on his exit from Salford, Morgan said: “Thanks to all the coaches and staff for the opportunities I’ve been given.

“To all the boys, it’s been a pleasure, and I’ve made some best mates for life.

“To the fans, I hope it works out for you all, and hopefully see Salford back to their best soon. Thank you.”

Also giving words on his new club, he added:  “I’m really excited to have signed for next year, I’ve only heard good things about the direction that the club is going in.

“I can’t wait to meet all the boys, staff and the fans, and hopefully play a part in helping the club achieve a high finish next season in the Betfred Championship.”
