Andy Last has joked that he will be glad to see the back of Willie Peters after Hull KR won a ninth consecutive derby with Hull FC without a win in the fixture since July 2023.
That was just Willie Peters’ second derby, meaning he will leave Hull KR with an impressive record of ten wins and just one loss against bitter rivals FC, a period of dominance that has rarely been seen in the fixture.
The record for consecutive wins is ten and Nathan Cayless, Willie Peters’ replacement, is the man tasked with taking the Robins to tie up the record that Hull FC currently hold.
Speaking in his post-match presser following Thursday night’s 34-20 defeat against Rovers, Last joked: “I’ll be glad to see the back of Willie Peters in regard to the derby.
“He’s certainly got them (Hull KR) up for it, and there was probably a lot of emotion attached to tonight’s game with it being Willie’s last derby.”
Last added: “I said that to him after tonight’s game, that I’ll be glad to see the back of you because he’s certainly had the wood over us as the head coach of Hull Kingston Rovers.
“It’s tough but we have to get over it because we play on Thursday.”
Hull FC boss highlights difference maker in loss to Hull KR
Hull FC will be grateful that they won’t be facing Jez Litten when they play on Thursday as the England hooker controlled the game on Thursday night and Last, a former England assistant, spoke very highly of the former Black and White.
“Jez, he’s just a different level. Just a different level,” Last said when speaking about the differences between the sides.
“His ability to pick the right pass, run, challenge the A, challenge the markers, his kicking game, how he rolls the ruck, he’s an exceptional player.
“Hull Kingston Rovers are lucky to have him and it’s no surprise that he got Man of the Match. He was absolutely huge for them.”
