Leigh Leopards have won once again but it’s a win that came at a cost with Adrian Lam revealing his fears that Frankie Halton is now out for the season.
Halton was one of two Leigh players to leave the field injured with Edwin Ipape failing a HIA, however, the Leopards boss revealed post-match that he suspects second-rower Halton to have torn his pec.
That’s an injury that ruled Hull KR’s Arthur Mourgue out for 16 weeks so anything of a similar severity will of course end the forward’s season.
Speaking post-match after his side’s 28-12 win over Warrington Wolves, Lam noted how his side was forced into some mid-game shuffles on account of the injuries.
“It’s been like that just about every week so we just get on with it really,” he accepted.
“We probably got a few more knocks in that second half there, so Frankie Halton might be done now for the season with that injury, and we’ll wait and see, but I thought we were resilient today and hung in there and played really well.”
On Halton and the chances of it being season-ending, Lam added: “It looks like it, I think he might have torn his pec.”

He also confirmed that Edwin Ipape will be out for next week’s game against Wigan Warriors, a clash that he feels is now approaching the level of a Saints and Wigan derby.
Lam said: “I know their local derby this weekend that they had with Saints is always massive, I was fortunate to play in a few of those, I love them, but this is getting as big as that, in our opinion anyway.
“Before the game (against Wigan earlier in the year), we talked about the last two years getting 80 minutes away from Old Trafford, going out and losing to Wigan. The rivalry has certainly built up over the last couple of years, and it’ll be no different here next Friday.”
As for the win over Wire, he issued his verdict: “Pretty happy, I thought the first half was awesome, and we left some tries out there as well but I though we were physical and we were up for it.”
With Wigan and Leeds in their next three games, Lam reaffirmed the club’s principle of one game at a time, stating: “It’s just been one week at a time for the last two or three months because of the situation we gave ourselves at the start of the year, but there was also always hope there and knowing that we’ve got a few phases, and we needed to play together and get some time together, especially with the spine.
“Having said that, I thought Lokie Lamb today was awesome, and (Adam) Cook, both the nines, and also Davy Armstrong coming together really well, and that certainly helps.”
On Armstrong, who shone once again, he added: “That’s his best position (at full-back) for us moving forward for the next season or two, but he’s just had to fill in, and a lot of times, a lot of players have played out of position.
“Jack Hughes playing as a middle played a bit of centre today, just things like that have happened every week, but like I said, they understand the situation we’re in and the roles that they have to play, and I’m just grateful that we got the win here today.”
