His side might have gone under the radar a little in 2025, but Leigh Leopards boss Adrian Lam isn’t too stressed following their loss to Leeds Rhinos.
A 48-30 defeat might ring alarm bells to some coaches, but Lam feels like this was just a blip in an otherwise strong season so far.
Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, he said it wasn’t an easy game for him to watch in the stands and thought his side rarely got a foothold on the game.
He said: “It was weird to watch, to be honest, I couldn’t get a grip of it.
“We started with a few errors, and I think we were our own worst enemy.
“Once we got back in the game, we gave away a penalty. Then we were on the back foot, and we just couldn’t connect defensively; we haven’t been like that for a long time.”
When asked whether he was concerned about conceding 48 points, he was more worried about his side having to make positional changes on the fly.
David Armstrong went down in the first half holding his heavily-strapped knee before not returning for the second half, and Darnell McIntosh was also pictured on the sidelines icing his knee.
Lam said: “Watching it live, I was, but there were reasons for that. We had a lot of changes as well, David early on in the first half getting injured and then positional changes left, right and centre.
“It’s not an ideal one, not too much to stress about, but obviously we’ll have to reset, and we go into next week.”
Leigh Leopards and their Catalans Dragons hangover
After a tough game in the south of France last week, with some of the highest temperatures of the season, the Leigh Leopards boss expected his side to be a little sluggish.
However, he was mostly glad to get the game done and dusted as they face even tougher fixtures at home against Wigan Warriors and Hull KR next.
He said: “Last week, in the sun, I knew there’d be some sort of after effect.
“I felt like we were lethargic in the game at some points and just defended differently than what we’ve done.
“A lot of people turning in, turning out, and it’s not us. A lot to work on, but I’m not going to be too upset about that.
“I think it’s one of those where the sooner that was over, the better, and we can move forward and just work hard on being more consistent with who we want to be.”
