Leigh Leopards head coach Adrian Lam has covered a range of topics in his latest press conference, ranging from his own future at the club to what impact NRL great Daly Cherry-Evans would have, if he signed in Super League.
The latter of those is a big if but the NRL legend has been linked with a move to Hull FC, something that the Black and Whites’ interim coach Andy Last has not denied, and Lam was also asked for his verdict on the matter.
“I think Cherry-Evans is one of the greats of the game over there,” Lam responded when asked about the 37-year-old being linked with a move to Super League.
“He’s been around for a long time, played in Grand Finals, and is probably playing one this year as well.”
Cherry-Evans was a one-club man until this season, when he joined the Roosters, who currently sit second on the NRL ladder. It could well be that he will end his esteemed career in Super League, and despite the fact he’d have to coach against him, Lam would be all for it.
“He’s an absolute legend of a bloke. I’ve had him involved with the Kangaroos, and he’s one of those players that can lead people around him. Any player like that that gets linked to Super League is great for our game.”

Leigh Leopards’ contract talks with Adrian Lam still ongoing
Talk of Cherry-Evans to Super League came after questions about Leigh Leopards’ own recruitment, something that Lam confirmed remains ongoing but is also slow, largely by merit of a small player pool.
“It’s slow and there’s not much availability, but it’s ongoing, and it’s been like this for a while,” Lam explained, before outlining why that was the case.
“When you look at it outside of here, there’s new teams coming into the NRL. There’s teams being promoted from Championship to Super League this year. There’s teams wanting to come up from Championship.
“It’s ongoing and it’s every day and it’s just a grind. We’ll keep working hard, and staying on top of it all is what we do best.”
Another issue that is ongoing are contract negotiations for Lam himself, who will enter the final year of his deal with the Leopards in 2027, though he was keen to explain just how much he is loving his time at Leigh.
“It’s still ongoing. It always is,” he admitted.
“Like I said, I love driving to the LSV every day and spending time with this group. I love our fans, I love the trajectory that the club’s heading in.
“At this point in time it’s ongoing, but it’s a great place to be a part of.”
