The launch date and first major details for the new Rugby League 26 game have been confirmed with fans not having to wait long.

There has not been a rugby league video game launched since 2017 but after eight years, that finally ends with confirmation that a new game will launch next month.

It’s been announced that the new game, produced by Big Ant Studios, will be named Rugby League 26 and launch on July 17th.

The game will be available on a host of different platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

In more exciting news, the game will include the Women’s Super League as well making it the first game to do so, whilst the NRL and Super League are also featured competitions.

With the Women’s Super League included, it means there is a female and male cover star with England internationals Jodie Cunningham and Junior Nsemba selected.

Rugby League ‘deserves world-class video game’

The RFL confirmed the launch of the game with their statement outlining details and offering insight from the CEO of Big Ant Studios, as well as Rugby League Commercial’s Rhodri Jones.

Jones said: “Rugby League deserves a world-class video game, and Rugby League 26 delivers exactly that. We’re excited to see our Super League and Women’s Super League clubs and players represented in such detail and realism, competing on the same level as the best clubs and stars of the Rugby League world ahead of this autumn’s Ashes series.”

Ross Symons, the CEO of Big Ant Studios, added: “Every part of Rugby League 26 is driven by authenticity and depth. From the expanded Career Mode to the Pro Team feature and advanced customisation tools, this game marks a new standard for Rugby League in interactive entertainment.”

Per the RFL’s launch statement: “Whether a hardcore League supporter or a casual sports gamer, Rugby League 26 offers an authentic, immersive experience on and off the field for everyone.”
