With the halfway point of the 2025 Super League season, there will be plenty of recruitment talk, with a whole host of players out of contract at the end of the year and that’s certainly the case at Hull FC.
Hull FC have a mixture of both experienced players and youngsters hopeful for a deal for 2026 and beyond.
However, the club currently have no quota spaces available under the current RFL rules but is hopeful for a change in the restrictions on overseas signings.
Currently, there are 10 Hull FC players out of contract in 2025, so let’s take a closer look.
10 Hull FC players out of contract this season
Jack Ashworth
He’s played in all but one Super League game for the Black and Whites this season but currently hasn’t been offered a deal for 2026. Ashworth has been somewhat of an underdog in 2025, making an impact from the bench mostly. He’s quite an old-fashioned kind of forward, focusing on making metres and helping out in defence, rather than an offloading player. However, he’s been a solid addition to the Hull FC pack.
Tom Briscoe
Now at 35, Briscoe is in his second stint with Hull FC, moving from the wing to the centres. However, he’s become a player who doesn’t necessarily start every game but in recent weeks has been used off the bench to help cover any injuries across the backline. Whilst he might not be as quick as he once was, he’s still an asset in defence.
Zach Jebson
Jebson is spending the 2025 season on loan at Goole Vikings, with former Hull prop Scott Taylor as his coach, and without featuring for Hull FC this season. He probably won’t be given a new contract and could well sign for Goole, should he enjoy his time at the club.
Will Gardiner
At 24, Gardiner yet to really break into the first team on a regular basis, so he’s another who we expect will depart the club.
Liam Knight
He’s a popular figure already amongst fans, despite only arriving in March on a deal until the end of the season. Knight has more than impressed both fans and pundits alike, he was brought in to replace Ligi Sao, following a season-ending knee injury. However, as it stands with the current RFL rules, Hull FC have no available quota spaces for 2026.
Matty Laidlaw
At 21, he still has time to make his mark on the Hull FC pack and has been called upon twice in 2025 to join the bench following multiple injuries to the club’s starting forwards. He’s also spent time at Doncaster on dual registration, but we imagine he’ll get a one-year deal to see if he can get some more consistent game time. He recently came in for praise from Cartwright for his performance against Leigh Leopards.
Jordan Lane
Whilst it hasn’t been officially announced by either club, Lane looks set to be joining Castleford Tigers on a four-year deal from 2026. He suffered a broken arm back in April but could feature before the end of the season for the Black and Whites and hopefully, get the send-off he deserves.
Ligi Sao
Following his season-ending knee injury, Sao was deregistered by the club to enable the signing of Liam Knight. For now, Sao is focused on his rehab after a solid pre-season, but Cartwright is hopeful for a quota rule change so he can see him in action.
Cobie Wainhouse
Wainhouse spent much of 2024 coming back from an ACL injury, so he will be hoping to break into the first team in 2025. He’s another forward in a pack that only has limited spots but the 19-year-old could bide his time at the Black and Whites for another couple of years or so. He could get a one-year contract but spend time out on loan for game time.
