Rugby league needs a documentary like F1’s Drive to Survive says England star

Rugby league has a great on field product but needs a bigger fan base.

England star Seb Bechara has said the sport needs a documentary like Formula One’s ‘Drive to Survive.’

He said on Sky Sports: “Formula One fans will know that there is a Netflix documentary called ‘Drive to Survive.’ They made these big stars, but this series made the drivers into superstars.

“I think the promotion needs to be more. They can’t just be a superstar from performing in games.

“We have to do something about it and make TV shows, a TV series about these players focusing on them.

“A documentary or something about them.”

This prompted Brain Carney to propose a wider strategy with the comment: “A strategy perhaps?”

This is something Hull FC coach Tony Smith believes in saying that a strategy that links together the sport will allow it to thrive:

“A strategy that links up the whole game, then we will start doing some stuff, some really productive stuff.”
