Rugby league in major broadcast deal with three European countries

The NRL will be broadcast in three European nations in 2022 thanks to a major deal that was signed today.

SPORT1+, which operates in Germany, Austria and Switzerland will broadcast the new season of the Australian NRL Telstra Premiership, which starts on March 10th.

The rugby league action will usually be covered by three live broadcasts on each matchday.

In addition to the regular season, the Finals Series and the Grand Final at the beginning of October will also be shown live on the pay-TV channel.

In total, up to 90 live games with original commentary will be broadcast in the upcoming season, whilst the coverage will be analysed with a weekly highlight magazine on SPORT1+ and highlight clips on the digital SPORT1 platforms.

The season kicks off with the clash of the reigning champions Penrith Panthers against the Manly Sea Eagles with anticipation high following Covid-19 outbreaks as well as floods in Australia.

Nathan Cleary, however, will not play a part for the Panthers after failing to shrug off an injury, leaving the door open for new signing Sean O’Sullivan to make his name in Cleary’s absence.
