You can’t miss it. Turn a corner and it’s there. Walk down the street and it’s unavoidable. Rugby league has landed in Las Vegas and it’s certainly making itself seen and heard.
Serious About Rugby League has been in Sin City a matter of hours but it took just a few seconds for us to realise that Saturday’s quadruple-header at the Allegiant Stadium is the main event in the capital of entertainment this weekend.
There’s only eight teams playing, of course, with Wigan Warriors taking on Warrington Wolves, Canberra Raiders facing New Zealand Warriors, England Women playing their Australian counterparts and NRL champions Penrith Panthers versing Cronulla Sharks and supporters have been spotted from all teams.
Cronulla, at this point, seem to have travelled in the largest numbers from Down Under with sky blue shirts, hats and apparel being spotted with regularity. NRL fans from all across Australia have made the trip, though, to take in the festival of rugby league and help the great game make a mark on Vegas.
There’s plenty of northern English accents milling about, too, though, particularly those from the north west. Thousands have made their way over from the UK to Nevada to cheer on either Wigan or Warrington and judging by what we’ve see in our short time stateside, the Super League pair could have the largest individual packs of supporters come Saturday.
Wigan and Warrington fans have been seen milling about in their hundreds down the strip, with cherry and white and primrose and blue being common themes in bars, restaurants and casinos as fans take in what Vegas has to offer.
Wigan held a signing session on Wednesday afternoon at their team hotel, which was a hugely popular event, while fans reportedly had to be turned away from the official launch at Red Tail because there was simply no room left in the building.
As the week progresses, the excitement is only going to be build, with Warrington hosting their own signing session on Thursday before the NRL’s fan event takes place on Fremont Street, complete with a red carpet and all eight teams.
We’re still a few days from match day yet, but it feels as though our sport has arrived in Vegas and whatever happens on Saturday at the Allegiant Stadium, rugby league will undoubtedly be the winner.

Surely this is how Magic Weekend should be with fans getting access to the teams between games etc

It is exactly the same concept when you think about it. Take RL to a none RL area and play several games and get noticed by the locals. From what I have seen so far, it looks like a real party going on over there. Surely someone will sit up and take notice.
