Rugby league great ‘couldn’t give a f***’ about hate he’s just received

The NRL Hall of Fame added its latest inductees this week and it’s fair to say the decisions haven’t gone without controversy.

Sam Burgess, Lionel Morgan, Les Boyd, Ben Elias, Steve Renouf, Cameron Smith, Johnathan Thurston, Billy Slater, Benji Marshall, Cooper Cronk, Greg Inglis have all just landed in the NRL Hall of Fame.

But it’s the inclusion of Les Boyd which has caused the most controversy.

Darryl Brohman, former Penrith star and Footy Show member, tweeted: “Les Boyd…..9 Months suspension for breaking my Jaw in 1983. 12 Months for Eye gouging Billy Johnston……Gets inducted into the Rugby League Hall of Fame. Please!!!!”

One fan responded: “Majority of the game agrees with you Darryl – it’s an absolute disgrace. Really really poor from the NRL.”

But Boyd himself has hit back in style in brutal fashion.

“He should be grateful that I did it, otherwise no-one would remember him,” Boyd told The Daily Telegraph.

“Honestly, I couldn’t give a f***. Let him worry about it. He’s the one who can’t let it go. I’m over it. It’s in the past.

“(The incident) was more than 40 years ago – it was a long time ago. That’s life.”
