Rugby league fans fume over what Sky Sports have just done

The 2024 Super League Grand Final between Wigan Warriors and Hull KR should be a cracker – but the same can’t be said about something Sky Sports have done which has angered many rugby league fans.

Sky Sports revealed their Grand Final advert earlier in the week to much dismay. In fairness, it’s quite a vibrant advert which is clearly catered to a football audience not knowing what to watch during the football international break.

But it goes without saying the advert plays as a bit of a cringe fest, and the fact that Hull KR don’t appear in any of the footage or words in the advert is slightly odd. One of the Soccer AM presenters talking at the end of the advert below is also wearing a Salford shirt while the other dons a Wigan jersey.

Sky Sports’ Super League Grand Final advert:

It’s safe to say all of these factors have led to reaction aplenty. Let’s take a look at some of the best from our Facebook page and on Twitter. Not everyone is against it, though, as you can see.

Danny Barton: Why has he got a Salford shirt on?

Joel Smith: @amateurishRL spot the Salford shirt.

Kev Whitehead: Well done all involved the sport needs more of this effort.

Mason Hurst: Nice of Super League to do some decent advertising.

Kell Sharpe: The Salford shirt at the end just goes to show how little thought was put into this ad.

Peter Clarke: Who cares about the Salford shirt, it’s a good, positive ad.

Parkerman1979: This sums up Sky’s effort of covering rugby league this year. Pathetic.

Dearden91: This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen. Cringe.

Paul Wall: So loads of shots of Wigan playing, shots of Leeds playing, Warrington. It seems little Hull KR (no shots of them) aren’t in the final…Oh wait.”

Specsavers, a former sponsor of rugby league, even got involved and cheekily added: “Good luck to Salford on Saturday.”
