Rugby League fans disagree over Hull FC v Hull KR Challenge Cup allocation decision

Rugby League fans are split in opinion after the news that Hull KR will not receive an increased allocation for their Challenge Cup tie against Hull FC.

Both teams from Hull progressed to the quarter-finals as the Robins defeated Oldham 40-0 whilst the Black and Whites put in the performance of the weekend when beating holders Wigan 26-20.

That win was seen as one that laid down a marker and also blew open the chase for silverware, stopping Wigan’s run of trophies at six. Some fans were dreaming of a Hull final but the sides were drawn against each other for April’s quarter-finals.

Hull FC will host the game and there had been hope among the Hull KR fans that they would receive a larger allocation of tickets given that away teams can be granted up to 30% allocation for Challenge Cup ties.

Sadly for the Robins, that allocation has remained at 15% with Hull KR explaining that the actions of a “small minority” in 2023 mean the limited allocation still applies. As such, 3,708 tickets will be made available to Hull KR fans – a decision that has caused a reaction among rugby league fans.

Rugby League fans disagree over Hull KR and Hull FC allocation for Challenge Cup

Plenty of fans commented on Serious About Rugby League’s initial report of the allocation and that’s seen a range of differing opinions, those with Black and White-tinted glasses, those with Red and White-tinted glasses, and some who have taken neutral stances.

Here are some of those replies.

Danny Quance: “If we gave them what they’d have given us, it’d be under 1,0000 so they need to stop acting so damn entitled.”

Stewart Phillips: “Give them 200 when they come to rovers. Ways and means of security rovers upper and lower west and full north. No problem. Just running scared.”

Nick Dixon: “So how long are the SMC and the Police going to punish (in my case rovers for ever member for nearly 10 years and supporter for over 40) for the actions of people who’s alliance to the team is questionable? … I’m not saying that they weren’t supposedly rovers supporters but there’s a way to organise this so more people can go.”

Andy Brown: “Challenge cup is different to a league game, the truth is FC don’t want to many Rovers fans as they will lose home advantage, nothing to do with safety. Rovers will get in if they want to, which creates more issues then giving designated areas which is policed by stewards etc.”

Ian Kirby: “Stop allowing bottles on the terraces! Simple.”

William Webster: “The stadium belongs to all the people of Hull. Get some more stewards and arrest any idiots from both sides.”

Play the game earlier in the day, zero alcohol on sale anywhere in or near the venue, increase the number of stewards, stop anyone visibly drunk from entering the stadium, enforce any stadium bans, and in the event of any trouble hit the offenders hard and fast. But playing in front of the cameras in a half empty stadium is beyond stupid! It’s shooting the game in the foot playing in front of empty seats. It looks awful, it feeds the Union trolls about the nature and viability of League, if in a city, nominally a rugby league city, can’t fill a stadium for a quarter final match, when both teams are playing well, then why bother? On that basis neither club should be deemed fit to be picked for Las Vegas, a group of travelling morons drunk and thinking they’re hard are going to get a nasty shock in America, especially in Las Vegas, the Police there are exceptionally polite, even as they slam offenders into the concrete to put the cuffs on them, they even apologise for shooting the worst offenders.
