Rugby League fans disagree on best Super League signing as Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield Trinity men lead the way

Leeds Rhinos halfback Jake Connor carrying the ball

The debate over the best signing so far in Super League has split rugby league fans with a Leeds Rhinos recruit and a Wakefield Trinity forward among those dominating the debate.

Heading into the 2025 campaign, there was plenty of high profile players recruited by Super League clubs with plenty coming from the NRL but it’s two domestic signings who have caused the biggest splash according to rugby league fans.

Serious About Rugby League asked fans ‘Which Super League signing has had the most impact in 2025’ and of the 90-plus comments, two men dominated the conversation, and they weren’t necessarily those tipped to go well at the start of the year.

NRL recruit Luke Keary was expected to be a game-changer at Catalans but he has struggled to find his feet in the Northern Hemisphere, whilst Tristan Sailor has been up and down at St Helens as well.

Other high-profile recruits from Down Under included rugby league legend Jared Waerea-Hargreaves who maybe doesn’t stand out in the stats but has made a clear impact in the intensity of Hull KR.

Rugby League fans back Jake Connor and Mike McMeeken as most impactful pair in Super League

The pair who have been suggested most by rugby league fans are Wakefield Trinity’s prop Mike McMeeken and Leeds Rhinos’ playmaker Jake Connor, with both men featuring in every game so far.

Connor has already registered 15 try assists whilst McMeeken has helped make Trinity true play-off contenders, setting the tone with his whopping 441 tackles this year.

Other players were suggested but fans couldn’t be split between McMeeken and Connor, both men who could be in Shaun Wane’s thoughts for the Ashes.

Here are a few of the responses from fans.

Jamie Wilde: McMeeken has been awesome for Wakey. Also, it’s early days for Mourgue but it’s clear to see that he’s going to be a big player for the Robins!

Lynne Alison: McMeeken the Machine with Faatili the Fierce a close second.

Ryan Underwood: McMeeken has been an absolute mountain every week. Unbelievable player.

Paula Poulsen: Mike McMeeken for the Trin.
