Rugby League fans disagree after Hull KR post stadium update

Hull KR's East Stand extension. @HullKR

The last two seasons couldn’t have gotten much better for Hull KR beyond winning a major trophy. Challenge Cup final and Super League Grand Final appearances, and semis aplenty, Rovers have been so close to knocking their trophy door down.

While silverware will have to wait, it has not stopped the excitement reverberating around the club, evidenced by Rovers‘ decision to extend their East Stand. Now does the extension look great? Probably not. But it’s good news that there is a team in the Super League increasing their capacity to incorporate more fans.

It’s safe to say, though, that the reaction to the revelation of the stadium’s progress has led some to ridicule and on the flipside, strong messages of support. Here are some of the best reactions below.

Rugby League fans react to Hull KR stadium news

@SinceMajor: Looks great, that.

@yorkshire_pad: Looks great, really complements the existing stand. Can tell the architects have put a lot of thought into it.

@Sharks111064831: I thought this was from one of those accounts that posts photos from history for a minute then.. ‘Central Park, 1994’ etc.

@wakeyrule: Can’t understand the haters, it’s great to see a RL club needing to expand its capacity due to the exciting brand of RL you play. I just hope Trinity can challenge the old order with you…despite you nicking our best players.

@WiganRL1: Is the long term plan to extend the main stand to the full length of the pitch? Why didn’t it happen originally?
Great for the sport that there’s a need to extend capacity by the way.

@Joerenwick5:To be fair it just looks like a great extension would never be able to tell that’s two stands.

@DaveVarley8: Well done HKR from a Leeds fan. The fact that you need to do this shows how well you’ve done on and off the pitch. You, and to be fair Leigh, have shown what can be done and some of the other clubs should take note.

@johnlew13: A club doing that well they need to ‘temporarily’ increase their capacity and house others whilst the renovation happens. Bravo. Yet fans will slate it from other clubs. Does it look great? For a temporary stand, yes.

People love to have a moan and a joke and to be fair, some of the jokes are quite funny. But there’s no getting away from the fact that this is a really good development for Hull KR. Whether it’s fashionable or looks good, who really cares?
