Rugby League fans all say the same thing after Hull KR hammer St Helens

Super League attendance

Hull KR answered any questions that fans had about their Super League title credentials yesterday when they blitzed St Helens and won 42-6 to solidify top spot in the competition.

The Robins were coming off an impressive win at Magic Weekend over Catalans Dragons where they won 36-4 and scored eight tries, and they did the same again albeit with Mikey Lewis far better with the boot this time.

Hull KR had the game tied up within 20 minutes as they raced into a four-try lead, going in at the half 26-0 up and heading back to the summit of Super League.

Joe Burgess scored four in his best performance yet as a Hull KR player but it was Tyrone May who won the Man of the Match medal with the half-back orchestrating for the Robins.

It marks the team’s 11th win in 12 with their last four victories all seeing just one try conceded for an aggregate score of 136-20, highlighting their dominance.

That dominance has been so evident that fans are now starting to ask ‘Is it really Hull KR’s year’, with the Robins answering questions weekly about their credentials.

The biggest test will come in a fortnight’s time when they face champions Wigan Warriors on the road but already fans are arguing that this Hull KR side is the real deal and can go all the way.

After the performance fans took to social media to give their thoughts with former players chiming in too, ex-Huddersfield Giants man Eorl Crabtree took to X to give his verdict.

“On and off the field, there is a lot to like about Hull KR. They’re doing some great things and it’s something that Rugby League needs.”

Hull KR fans are having to get used to impressive performances under Willie Peters but even so they’re getting dizzy atop the table.

One posted: “I normally wouldn’t ever get carried away with rovers because at some point they normally bring us back to reality, however wire away, Catalan, yesterday, I’m watching something I’ve never seen before in my lifetime, best part is I still think we’ve got another gear in us.”

Fans on the Serious About Rugby League Facebook page had similar thoughts too as they answered the question of whether Hull KR are favourites to win the Grand Final.

David McGuinness said: “Based on current form you’d think so but who knows at the business end of the season. Can’t rule out Wigan when French is back.”

Chris Kendall (no, not that one) said: “I think Hull KR can win the Grand Final this year and beat Warrington Wolves.”

Plenty of fans were wary of Wigan though, even mentioning the team’s meeting in two weeks time.

Jimmy Burgess said: “They play Wigan in a couple of weeks which may decide who finishes top but grand final is a different proposition it’s who turns up on the day how many times have Leeds won it after finishing lower in the league.”

“Still think Wigan are favourites,” Paul Hickman argued.

A Hull KR fan Jon Parker said: “As a KR fan I’d love to see us win… but I still think Wigan will do the treble, especially if they get French back.”
