Rugby league fans were reacting in disbelief this evening after seeing Hull FC skipper Aidan Sezer sin-binned for a high tackle against Leigh Leopards.
The scrum-half was shown a yellow card midway through the first half at the MKM Stadium after appearing to connect with head of David Armstrong with his arm. Replays showed Sezer made contact with Armstrong’s shoulder first before touching the Australian’s head as the full-back went to ground.
However, the incident was still deemed strong enough for referee Tom Grant to send Sezer to the sin-bin for 10 minutes and leave Hull a man short.
Those of a Black and Whites persuasion were incensed once more moments later when Jordan Rapana joined Sezer in the sin-bin for catching the same man high. In an attempt to stop Armstrong from making his way over the line, Rapana pulled him back and appeared to catch his chin.
As such, Grant showed Rapana the same yellow he had showed Sezer, reducing Hull FC to 11. Leigh kicked themselves ahead after the Sezer incident and moments after Rapana left the field, Umyla Hanley ensured the Leopards made the most of their numerical advantage by touching down.
The incidents were certainly talking points online, then, with fans from across Super League responding in unison on social media.
“What a pathetic sin bin that is. Embarrassing for the game. Why can’t it be reffed like the Vegas game,” one fans wrote in response to Sezer’s yellow.
“Sin bin? It’s not even a penalty,” another wrote.
One confused spectator said: “There was 6 or 7 tackles higher than this last week in Vegas and not even a penalty. Yet the softest high tackle is a yellow this week?”
Another simply commented: “Game’s gone as they say.”
Ridiculous was the verdict from another viewer: “That was never a sin bin. Jeez that is ridiculous.”
“Cannot believe Sezer has been sin binned there. That’s an absolutely atrocious decision. Hit him on his shoulder,” someone else pointed out.
After the second yellow given, other fans said: “Neither of them are anywhere near a yellow. Game has gone. Pathetic.”
Aidan Sezer can’t believe it! 😳
