Rugby league family in shock at ex-Castleford Tigers star Jacques O’Neill following horrendous emotional moment in Love Island exit

Recently, there has been a mental health crusade in a bid to raise awareness of the problems that people can face internally.

For men, suicide is the biggest killer for those under 45 years of age and three-quarters of all suicides are male with men often finding it difficult to open up on their feelings.

Last night, Love Island viewers tuned in to watch an incredibly emotional Jacques O’Neill say his goodbyes to the villa after admitting he wasn’t being the best version of himself.

Whilst coupled up with Welsh beauty Paige, Jacques has faced a rocky relationship in recent days following antics in Casa Amor – where he was faced with six different girls in a different environment – and has since been trying with all his might to repair the damage.

However, O’Neill’s mood had considerably worsened as epitomised by yesterday’s bombshell when new boy Adam Collard walked in with his eyes firmly planted on Paige.

That seemed to tip the scales for Jacques and he lost his rag in last night’s episode, stating towards Adam: “Have you been f**king off? Who the f**k is he? Just another geezer who’s been on the show? He can f**k off then mate.”

That behaviour worried Paige with Jacques then beginning to realise the error of his ways. And, after professing his feelings for his partner, O’Neill revealed his decision to leave the Love Island villa in one of the most emotional moments in reality TV in recent years.

Jacques was keen to emphasise that he would ‘wait for Paige on the outside’ and that he wanted her to be ‘his girlfriend.’

And, the rugby league fraternity have thrown their support behind the former Castleford man with a number of his ex-teammates sending words of love and encouragement towards the Cumbrian.

Former Castleford and current Warrington Wolves star Peter Mata’utia tweeted: “That was hard to watch. My guy,” with three love heart emojis.

Another rugby league fan revealed how emotional the program made her, stating: “It made me cry, I’m sure the rugby family will look after him though.”

Another Twitter user wants everyone to get behind Jacques now he has left: “He’ll need his mates and teammates around him, feel so sorry for him. He’s a brave kid, wish him all the best and hope he gets a contract again to get back to himself and back to something he loves.”

Ex-teammate Oliver Holmes was also full of support for Jacques, tweeting: “Proud of @Jacques9oneill for what he’s done tonight! Takes a big man to admit when your not in a good place and make a decision like that. You can see he’s emotional and he cares for @PaigeThorne8 a lot. Just remember people, he’s only human and if you’ve nothing nice to say.”

More fans agreed with Holmes’ statement: “100% he did the right thing!! Hopefully see him back doing what he does soon and gets his head right, hope she follows him.”

One fan called on Holmes to check in on Jacques following the heartbreaking moment: “Just check in with him Ollie when you can bud.”

Another fan was keen to see people put their arm around Jacques: “Up the Jacques O’Neill. Just needs one of his boys to put their arm around him.”

There was plenty of support for Jacques following the shock announcement: “Jacques saying he’s not okay on national TV & people are still coming for him acting like he isn’t struggling mentally, no matter what he does its crucified, like no one’s ever messed up before.Laughable these people who preach mental health but abuse a lad from behind a screen.”

Another Castleford fan wants the club to desperately make sure Jacques is ok: “I hope @CTRLFC are watching @LoveIsland and ready to do what is needed. They rode on the coattails of him going in the villa, they need to make sure they support him outside.”

More support emanated on Twitter as the night wore on: “Everybody rally round him, rugby family look after him. Glad he made the decision to leave, health come first. His tiger family will be waiting for him.”

Another said: “Plenty would have tried to push through for the wrong reasons, massive respect to him for realising that he could take himself out of a bad situation.”

There was even support from rugby league legend Martin Offiah: “What’s wrong with me Jaques is leaving @LoveIsland and I’m nearly crying with him. Cannot believe he is leaving. My guy.”
