The rugby league community has once again shown why it’s one of the best in sport, following the sad news that Salford Red Devils have been sent into liquidation.
After meetings with HMRC were adjourned four times, the club have finally been given their marching orders, and were served with a winding-up petition, meaning the club would fold.
In what Sky Sports presenter Brian Carney labelled as “a sorry state of affairs”, Salford will now be free from the ownership of Sire Kailihi and Curtiz Brown, as they look to create a phoenix club that can rebirth rugby league in Salford.
The news of Salf0rd’s liquidation broke earlier today, and the side have already seen an outpouring of support from many in the rugby league community.
Teams from up and down the country, throughout a range of divisions, have put their arm around them, as they stand in solidarity with them after such poor leadership and mismanagement.
From Bradford Bulls to Midlands Hurricanes, Salford fans, players, staff and anyone affected have had plenty of offerings of support over the afternoon.
Sheffield Eagles were another side to show compassion for the Red Devils, with their statement reading:
“Everyone at Sheffield Eagles would like to express our full support to the fans, staff, and wider community of Salford Red Devils following today’s news that the club has entered compulsory liquidation.”
“We sincerely hope a solution can be found to ensure the club can continue playing in 2026 and beyond, and that the two clubs can meet each other next season in the Betfred Championship.”
The Huddersfield Giants send their best wishes to the players, staff and supporters of Salford Red Devils, we hope is not the end of professional Rugby League in Salford ❤️ https://t.co/c9eo36XysK

Outpourings of sympathy, Be your age Sam!
Empty, meaningless sentences from a couldn’t care less sport.
