Roy Keane joins Brian Carney and Tyrone McCarthy on stage for ex-Warrington player’s testimonial

Tyrone McCarthy is a name that many fans will know having played at multiple Super League clubs and also making appearances in the NRL down under, before he retired in 2021.
The RFL granted him a testimonial year in 2022 and the ex-Ireland international, who is now working as an academy coach for the Warrington Wolves, made use of it by meeting his hero Roy Keane.
In a charity event organised as part of his testimonial year, the former Irish football international was the guest speaker at the The Parr’s Bank in Warrington as Sky Sports’ Brian Carney hosted.
McCarthy, who vice-captained Ireland at the 2013 World Cup, wasn’t left disappointed as one of football’s most famous faces, who has been vocal about his love for rugby league recently, dropped in before he headed to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

He also noted the inspiration that Keane had provided whilst attending and speaking with attendees including academy players for the Wolves as well as young people Warrington Youth Zone, a charity that is set to open this year in McCarthy’s home town.
The ex-prop forward, who captained Hull KR to a Challenge Cup final and represented Salford Red Devils in both a Grand Final and Challenge Cup final, is clearly using his opportunity for a testimonial to fulfill not only his dream of meeting Keane, but to try and inspire and push forward the youth of his primrose and blue academy and also the wider Warrington community.
