Roosters monitoring Folau for potential NRL return

Recently crowned World Club Champions Sydney Roosters are closely monitoring Israel Folau with a view to signing the controversial star for the next NRL season.

According to The Sydney Telegraph, the current Catalans Dragons player is being viewed as a potential replacement for veterans Brett Morris and Mitchell Aubusson.

The 30-year-old has been unofficially banned from the NRL, but clubs will likely keep an eye on the ex-Wallabies star until a definitive answer regarding his future has been made.

Folau was banned by Rugby Australia because of a homophobic post on his social media account, but he has promised his current side that he won’t be making any more controversial comments any time soon.

The report claims that Roosters chairman Nick Politis is close with agent Wayne Beavis, who was heavily involved in Catalans acquisition of Folau.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson has also been friendly with the French club since his time there between 2011 and 2012.

Both Politis and Robinson refused to comment on the potential of signing Folau.

It is thought that a two-year deal is in the pipeline for Folau at the Roosters and despite being on $1 million per season salary in the past, the former Premiership winner isn’t looking for a big money contract to return to the NRL.
