Leeds Rhinos have laid down a real marker with another impressive performance to down Warrington Wolves.

But it is a bitter pill for Warrington and Daryl Powell to swallow.

On the back of a sensational performance last week against Huddersfield Giants, Blake Austin has dominated discussions due to his uncertain future. He started this game again with a point to prove. A lovely dummy carved open Warrington. He found support in Aidan Sezer who found Sam Walters to score.

After defending their own line for a set Leeds marched down field with an excellent set of six and on the last tackle Sezer and Richie Myler combined feed Ash Handley to score.

A sensational start continued as Leeds looked too fast for Warrington. Again a try for Ash Handley as Leeds attacked wide with Cameron Smith’s looping ball found Rhyse Martin who put Handley in for a second.

Matty Ashton is one of the fastest players in Super League and when he intercepted it, he looked certain to score but a great tackle from James McDonnell stopped him before he got in full flight.

In a far more low key second half, the first noteworthy moment was when Rhyse Martin tore through the centre of the field but Josh Thewlis defended the break brilliantly giving his teammates time to get back.

The Wolves needed a try and it eventually game after a bounce pass was picked up by Stefan Ratchford who then fed Matty Ashton to score.

Shortly after that Leeds wrapped up the game. Sam Lisone went to the line, fed Sam Walters through a gap and Walters then found Myler in support to score.

Rohan Smith was very happy with his side’s performance.

“I thought we were very good today,” he said on Sky Sports.

“I did think we over chased a little in the second half but we defended our line really well.”

He then hinted that he wasn’t happy with the decision to award Matty Ashton’s try believing it was a knock on from Ratchford.

He said: “The only try we conceded was from a knock on.”
