Rohan Smith reveals what sparked red card incident

Leeds Rhinos

In Leeds Rhinos’ defeat to St Helens last night there was a myriad of major moments that helped determine the game.

Many went against the Leeds Rhinos as Rohan Smith’s side were forced to deal with real adversity throughout the game.

After losing three players to injuries, Leeds had James McDonnell sent off.

Smith was naturally asked about the incident after the game.

He gave his assessment of what he believed sparked the whole situation:

“Haven’t watched it. I’ve turned away or which focusing on the next thing after the error and then I think one of the St Helens players was probably given a bit of, you know, and they came in and there was a bit of banter going on amongst a few of them during the game and you know whatever happened on the back of the banter I’m not quite sure.”

Smith did concede that if the video referee had looked at it, he would expect the correct call to have been made: “But obviously the video ref had a chance to review it so you know you’d hope that he got it right.”

It is not good for Leeds.

Mikolaj Oledzki went down injured in golden point meaning Leeds could lose at least five players through injury and suspension next week.
