Rohan Smith reveals what he said to Sam Tomkins at halftime as he has say on Matt Prior incident in Leeds Rhinos’ win over Catalans Dragons

Last night’s play-off clash was certainly a fiery encounter.

Catalans received three yellow cards and a red card as frustrations boiled over for the French side as their season came to an end after failing to kick on after a first Grand Final appearance in 2021.

Those frustrations were evident very early on in the game and led to an interesting scenario at halftime.

After Leeds had scored two quick quire tries to take a 12-4 lead into the break, Sam Tomkins was seen having a discussion with referee James Child before Tomkins and Leeds boss Rohan Smith had a somewhat heated exchange.

Smith had said earlier this week that he believed Tomkins was “one of the best players in the Super League era” but noted his ability to influence officials.

Smith revealed in his press conference after the game what he said to Tomkins at halftime: “It just goes on, on and on. Every decision is just questioned and challenge. I just suggested that we just play footy and see who the best team is at the end of the day.”

Tomkins was later involved in another controversial moment when he fell to the ground after an altercation with Leeds’ Matt Prior with Tomkins claiming he was head butted by the Leeds prop.

After the game, Smith said he didn’t believe there was much in it and said he felt like many players during the game were “trying to milk penalties.”

“Dived,” was Smith’s initial response to a question about the incident before he elaborated, “I only saw it live, but there was a lot of people trying to milk penalties.”
